Delicate Execution : Jason D’Aquino

The Head of John the Baptist
(shown larger than actual size)

Jason D’Aquino works on a miniature scale rendering his art on found aged materials, such as antique matchbooks. His drawings often allow only a single viewer at a time, forcing each person to enter a very intimate space with each piece. There is a sense that Jason D’Aquino’s world is in some ways a post-apocalyptic one. You get the feeling that each drawing is a piece of a larger whole, created with precious and diminishing resources, documenting forgotten moments of a time before the “Great Fall”.

The “moment of the fall” is a recurring theme in my drawings. The line between healthy, youthful innocence and corruption is so tenuous. The weight of a feather could throw the balance, and tip the scales. And they can never be re-set.  -  Jason D’Aquino
