Los Angeles based photographer Chad Michael Ward creates horror images that both enthrall and repulse the viewer. Most disturbing are his erotic images of the female form twisted into something hideously arousing. “Hurry, hurry, step right up. See the amazing, the baffling, and the hideous! Curiosities beyond your wildest dreams or darkest nightmares! But for an accident of birth, you might be as they are. Step right up. Hurry, hurry.” These words echo in your head when you see James G. Mundie’s work. The era of the freak show is for the most part over, what was once an expected companion to most carnivals is now extremely rare. In Battle There Is No Gravetemple
The work of illustrator and designer Justin Bartlett has a great primitive feel to it. Almost childlike in appearance, his art is strong, controlled, and deceivingly simple. His great use of white space and complex textures really makes his work a visual black & white treat.
